Here’s a pretty good article that has a list of reasons why the worst of this recession may be behind us. I’ll admit that some of them are a stretch, but others like the back to back monthly increases in the LEI do provide me with a little hope.
Believe it or not, what gives me the most hope are the comments after the article. It appears all 700+ of them are negative and pessimistic. That alone could be a reason to be a little less bearish. Could we be at or near the point of maximum pessimism?
I hope so. Steve I was wondering if you could help clear something up for me. Can you please explain how etfs pay dividends? For example, SPY has holdings in all dividend paying companies. How would these dividends be distributed?
Well how I think it works is… The ETF holds a butch of stocks… in SPY’s case it’s all the stocks in the S&P 500. So since it holds all these stocks some of them will pay their dividends. SPY will receive these dividends and once every quarter add them up and distribute them to whoever owns the ETF. Here’s SPY’s dividend history…
